A balanced mix is a boring mix. I start off my mixes by achieving this balance and then work to highlight and expose the most important parts of the song emotionally, rhythmically, magically, etc. I honor the rough draft and try to elevate the best parts. I know how much time and care artists put into their songs before sending them out to be mixed and I aim to preserve this character while elevating it into a professional, releasable state. Over the years, I have learned and invested in software that allows me to manipulate sounds however I choose fit. I can remove background noise, plosives, and clipping to save otherwise unusable recordings or keep those “mistakes” and highlight them to create unique emotional texture. The goal is to take the demo and turn it into everything you hoped for and more! That being said the mixing world is all about compromises. Turn up this and there’s less of that, only so much real estate. So sometimes decisions need to be made and I make those decisions with the heart of the song as well as the desires of the client and the audience in mind. For all mixes, I suggest sending any reference track and I am more then happy to discuss vision and intent for a song before starting the mix!
